Blain’s Farm & Fleet is back with tips on vegetables to add to your garden.

Easy to grow vegetables

  1. carrots
    Carrots are easy to plant and grow. You should plant the carrot seeds in cooler weather. Harvest them within 60–75 days or when their tops appear above the soil line. They also need sandy soil deep enough for the root vegetables to grow.
  2. Green beans
    Green beans are a great vegetable for your garden. You can eat them fresh from the garden. You can even enjoy them all year round. Start with these delicious and easy to grow vegetables. Once you’ve harvested the green beans, you can even can them at home to enjoy later.
  3. radish
    This ground vegetable is easy to grow. They are hardy and can be planted in spring and fall. Radishes are quick and easy to grow and provide a plentiful harvest. If you plant radishes, don’t leave them in the garden for too long. If they are not picked early enough, they will lose their flavor.
  4. tomatoes
    Tomatoes are ideal for your vegetable garden. They come in a variety of sizes, from cherry tomatoes to the large Amish paste tomatoes. For tomatoes, you need to watch out for pests and diseases. Tomato starter plants are available to make the growing process even easier. Tomatoes are also great for canning. Tomatoes can be easily preserved or you can even make homemade salsa and spaghetti sauce.
  5. cucumbers
    Cucumbers are an easy vegetable to plant in your garden. Just make sure you plant them in the warm season. The Farmer’s Almanac suggests planting them at least two weeks after the last spring frost. You can preserve cucumbers by freezing or pickling them.
