The “QAnon shaman” who stormed the Capitol on January 6th without a shirt and with a horned headdress is negotiating a possible plea deal with the prosecutor, his lawyer said.
Defense attorney Albert Watkins told Reuters in an interview that Federal Bureau of Prisons officials had diagnosed his client Jacob Chansley with transient schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression and anxiety. Watkins added that Chansley’s mental health likely worsened while he was held in solitary confinement in a Virginia prison.
“As he spent more time in solitary confinement … the decrease in his visual acuity was noticeable even to the untrained eye,” Watkins told Reuters.
Chansley was one of the most famous rioters in the Capitol and a staunch supporter of QAnon, the conspiracy that calls former President Donald Trump a savior and the Democrats a satanic pedophile.
He faces multiple charges, including rioting and obstruction of an official trial. Watkins did not disclose the charges Chansley claimed to be guilty of.
Watkins added that Chansley was similarly diagnosed in 2006 while serving in the Navy.
